Job positions available:
Full-time Farm Crew (35-40 hours/week)
Part-time Farm Crew (10-20 hours/week; flexible)
Job Description:
Wander Creek Farm is a small scale, no-till, diversified veggie CSA and market farm. We intensively grow mixed vegetables, flowers and herbs on 1 acre using organic and no-till practices, mostly with human-power. The farm is located in rural south-central NY (zone 5b), 30 minutes from the city of Binghamton, and an hours drive from Ithaca and Syracuse. We serve a local CSA community of about 75 households and a local farmers market.
We’re passionate about how and why we farm, and as former apprentices at Frith Farm in Maine, we have a strong appreciation for farm education.
We’re looking for seasonal farm crew for the 2024 growing season from May through September, though there may be opportunity to start sooner and end later. These positions include on-the-job training in no-till vegetable and flower production.
Responsibilities:
- The work is varied day to day and includes, but is not limited to, bed preparation, seeding, planting, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, wash/pack, general field operations, CSA set up, and possibly markets. Part-time farm crew can expect less variability and more field work.
- Work may also include irrigation installation and maintenance, high tunnel installation, and other farm-related infrastructure projects.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to perform physical labor comfortably outdoors, through long days, in all weather. Human-powered vegetable production is an athletic endeavor that requires you to be in good physical and mental condition.
- At least 3 months work experience with farming is strongly preferred, but not required. At least 6 months work experience with outdoor physical labor is required.
- A positive attitude and strong work ethic are paramount. Those that do well on a farm work quickly and efficiently.
- Readiness to learn from and with us.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, content with repetitive tasks, and comfortable working productively both independently and with others.
Compensation and Benefits:
- hourly wage
- weekly veggies and farm grown “seconds”
- paid lunch hour for full-time position
- lots of farm perks! local farmers’ market treats, community meals, summer swimming hole, world’s three best farm cats, farm education for those who want it, etc.
- we do not have farm crew housing but we may be able to help you find something–let us know
How To Apply:
Send an email letting us know how you’d like to fit into our farm and why, and include a resume with 3 references.
